How ethical leadership style can foster business growth in the travel and tourism.

In the tourism industry, ethical consumption is still a relatively undeveloped field. Critical thinking skills and standardised frameworks to encourage moral behaviour in enterprises and tourists are lacking. The necessity for moral leadership and equitable working circumstances is further highlighted by the ethical difficulties that travel business owners and staff face, including salary restructuring, low motivation, discrimination, and diversity.

Understanding ethical leadership and its role on company success - Organisational leaders podcast take

Ethical leadership is the adoption of moral principles and values in organisational management. This includes promoting equity, fairness and ensuring staff wellbeing. Ethical leadership style further allows harmonious relationships when leaders lead by ethical examples. The following points discussed some ethical leadership qualities and its impact on organisational success.

·       Organisational image: this is business perception perceived by people. In other words when an organisation has a good image, it directly sends signal of trustworthiness to its stakeholders, whereas the opposite of it downgrades business credibility.  A good example is when organisational leaders lead with good moral principles and values, this does not just influence internal customers (staff members) but positively enhances the business image to attract more customers.

·       Competitive advantage: When ethical leaders build an atmosphere of trustworthiness, transparency and promote equity within organisations, this can contribute to employee’s output to achieve competitive advantage. For example, treating employees with moral respect, motivate them to perform well.  Another quality of an ethical leader to achieve competitive advantage is accountability. Thus, when organisational leaders with good ethics takes responsibilities to improve from their past mistake(s) and error(s) for example, this also can influence competitive advantage.

Qualities of ethical leadership – Stakeholders podcast take.

·       Human development can either be nurture and nature. Nurture elements comprises environmental and relationships factors that contributes to individuals’ developments, whereas the nature elements relate to background inherited chemistries. These two elements can play a role in ethical leadership style formation in a person, and not necessary through training or maturity. Another factor of a person ethical development can also derived from his/her societal status quo such as prestige, recognition, and environmental trends such as sustainability and work ethics. For example, the chance for a highly influential person with great dignity to be unethical is very limited since this will affect his/her status quo. In summary, to enhance business growth always look out for these qualities of ethical leadership in a person. Thus assess a person’s background with these dynamics to ensure ethical behaviour become part of your business daily growth. Training and development are also key development strategies in ethical leadership style formation.

Types of leaders – Organisational leaders and other stakeholders podcast take.

Transformational and ethical leaders: the difference between these two-leadership styles is that a transformational leader lead by inspirations which allow other people to follow, whereas ethical leaders lead by examples of moral principles and values. Although these two-leadership styles can overlap because both leaders can also lead by examples, but a transformational leader may not necessary be an ethical leader because of his lack of moral principles and values. For example, a transformational leader with strong drive and passion to get a work done may somehow not be ethical, because of his lack of moral principles and values for his team members and the people around him.  So, in summary don’t confuse ethical leader with a transformational leader they are not the same.

Workplace Spirituality impact on ethical leadership   - Ethical leaders podcast take.

Workplace spirituality is an environment that spiritual values are integrated to promote self-reflection and or an environment that where people find their purpose. This is an environment that ethical leaders can have crucial impact on by allowing followers to reflect on themselves and take responsibilities for their work. Therefore, in summary the role of an ethical leader within such an environment is not to undermine or disrespect workers spiritual values, but rather promote it to allow people to be themselves.

Ethical leadership role impact on tourism sustainability – Stakeholders podcast take.

Unethical issues confronting the travel and tourism industry – Business owners podcast take.

Positive yield management is every business heart desire at the end of every workday, especially private organisations. As a result, organisations optimised yield management by developing diverse strategies to achieve targets. Applying business strategies to meet sales target is not something regarded as bad, but for examples unethical principles like overbooking and underpay. Business on the other hand is not always about making money but rendering services that meet the needs of your stakeholders. Unethical transactions or behaviour in the travel and tourism industry can downsize business image. As Colleen Barret said "To earn the respect (and eventually love) of your customers, you first have to respect those customers. That is why Golden Rule behaviour is embraced by most of the winning companies." – Colleen Barrett, Southwest Airlines President Emerita. In other words, do not do unto others, what you do not want others to do unto you (this is a golden rule).

Ethical leadership style impact on teamwork – Organisational leaders podcast take.
